A BCCI source told IPL Prediction that the entire SunRisers Hyderabad squad has been put in isolation after a player tested positive for COVID-19. Coronavirus has been detected in one player from the Delhi Capitals. Two Kolkata Knight Riders players, Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier, were declared positive the day before. The Chennai Super Kings also announced on Tuesday that bowling coach Lakshmipathy Balaji and a member of the travel support staff had tested positive for COVID-19, putting the entire squad in quarantine.
The BCCI announced that the IPL 2021 season will be postponed shortly after the surge in Covid cases in the bio-bubble.
The IPL GC and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) jointly agreed to postpone the IPL 2021 season with immediate effect, according to an IPL media advisory.
“In an emergency meeting, the Indian Premier League Governing Council (IPL GC) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) unanimously agreed to postpone the IPL 2021 season, with immediate effect,” the media advisory said.
“The BCCI does not want to jeopardise the welfare of the players, support personnel, and other people interested with the IPL’s organisation. This decision was made with all stakeholders’ security, welfare, and well-being in mind “Added the statement.
The BCCI has stated that it would do whatever possible to ensure the safe and stable passage of all IPL 2021 participants.
“The BCCI would like to express its gratitude to all healthcare professionals, state associations, players, support personnel, franchises, supporters, investors, and all service providers who have worked tirelessly to make IPL 2021 a success, even in these trying times,” says the BCCI.
