MELBOURNE RENEGADES WOMEN
Although the Melbourne Renegades lost against the Brisbane Heat by a score of 26 runs, Josephine Dooley (40 runs) and Courtney Webb put out a commendable performance overall (47 runs).
These are excellent points to remember going into the next game against the Strikers since the Heat are no pushovers.
The top-order hitters, skipper Sophie Molineux and Hayley Matthews, will need to contribute much more if the Renegades are to continue winning. Particularly at Molineux, the Renegades have only scored eight runs collectively in their past two games. She has also not been very effective with the ball, recording only 1/68 in the previous two. It’s difficult to say if this is simply a phase in his career or something to watch for, but the Renegades won’t be winning many games if their skipper continues in this vein.
Fans of the Renegades may rejoice after learning that Chamari Athapaththu, the captain of Sri Lanka, has joined the squad for the remainder of the WBBL season. She is an excellent all-around player who will immediately increase the team’s chances of winning games, so this couldn’t have happened at a better moment.
