Perth Scorchers vs. Sydney Thunder
Oliver Davies (58/47) and Alex Ross (41*/18) helped the Sydney Thunder register his 6 wickets at Perth. It was their fourth straight win, making them co-leaders with the Scorchers.
After losing three wickets in the first six overs and starting at an average of 47/4, the Scorchers struggled, deciding to bat after ten overs. Ashton Turner corrected the course with his 37-ball 61 and took the Scorchers to 142/9 in his 20 overs. Turner hit three fours and three sixes before Nathan he was betrayed by McAndrew’s brilliant throw (29-3). By this time, Turner had scored 61 of Perth’s 105 runs.
But as Davis and Ross showed later in the game, totals are never enough. Thunder was on 10/2. Got into trouble after losing Alex Hales and Riley Rothuw to zero. But opener Matthew Gilkes (32) and Davis added his 67 runs on the third wicket to help stabilize the ship before Ross’ unbeaten cameo gave the side his three overs. It was helpful.
Sydney Sixers vs. Brisbane Heat
The match at the North Sydney Oval was called off due to rain. The match was initially reduced to 13 overs a side, but still only one innings could be completed. The Brisbane Heat got used to hitting and posted a 147/6 thanks to quick shots from Michael Neser (45*of 18) and Colin Munro (38 of 14). A quick start from the visitors saw him have 41 runs on the board within three overs, but Munro’s wicket caused a slight slowdown followed by wickets.
Steve O’Keeffe beat the middle order with his 26-3 as the Heat fell from his 62/1 to 72/5 and he to 91/6. That time he added 56 unbeaten runs with Neser and Nathan McSweeney (28 out of 20) teaming up. Unfortunately, this was the last action the game saw.
