Meg Lanning, the star batter for the Australia team, is still on an indefinite leave of absence from the game, thus the Melbourne Stars will be vying for their first-ever WBBL championship without her assistance.
Lanning stated last month that she will be leaving the sport of cricket after leading the national team to victory at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
After a hectic couple of years, she said in a statement, “I’ve decided to step back to allow me to spend time focusing on myself.” “I ask that my privacy be respected at this time and thank CA and my teammates for their support.”
With her 1,805 runs at an average of 41.97 and 18 fifties throughout 54 WBBL matches over four seasons, she has been the Stars’ greatest name and most dependable performer.
Lanning has twice been the competition’s top run-scorer and won Player of the Tournament in the WBBL’s maiden season in 2015–16.
The 30-year-continued old’s sabbatical was announced in a succinct statement from the Stars.
In accordance with the statement, Melbourne Stars Captain Meg Lanning “shall continue her indefinite vacation from cricket and will not compete in WBBL|08.”
The club requests that her privacy be maintained and appreciates her decision.
In the absence of Lanning, Melbourne’s international acquisition of three top-order players—Indian star Jemimah Rodrigues and English duo Alice Capsey and Lauren Winfield-Hill—will strengthen that division, while Australian representative Annabel Sutherland will have more responsibility at the plate.
