Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian men’s team, praised the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for their initiative to bring pay parity to the game by establishing equal match fees for male and female players. The men’s and women’s cricket teams in India will now pay the same match charge, according to the BCCI, the country’s cricket regulatory body. Rohit tweeted, “Happy and Proud.”
Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary, announced the momentous milestone on his official Twitter account.
“I’m happy to announce BCCI’s first effort to combat prejudice. We are putting in place a pay equality policy for the women cricketers we have on contract. As we enter a new age of gender equality in Indian Cricket, the match fee will be the same for male and women cricketers, Shah tweeted.
The new player compensation was also emphasized by BCCI Secretary Shah, who also emphasized that the Indian Women’s Cricket Team will get the same match money as their male counterparts.
The female cricketers from the BCCI will get the same match money as the male players. Test ($15 lakh), ODI ($6 lakh), and T20I ($15,000) (INR 3 lakhs). Notably, Rohit is in Perth with the rest of the Indian squad ahead of their Sunday Group 2, Super 12 encounter against South Africa.
South Africa defeated Bangladesh by a score of 104 runs prior to the game. India, on the other side, triumphed by 56 runs in its prior game against the Netherlands.
India leads Group 2 with four points after winning both of its games. With three points and one victory in two games, Proteas are in second place. Their previous matchup with Zimbabwe ended in a tie, with each team earning a point.
