After a loss to the Rajasthan Royals in their final game, the defending champions finished ninth on the points standings with only four wins in 14 games. Despite showing hints of improvement in the second half of the tournament, CSK’s season did not start well.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, who had a fantastic season last year, fell short of expectations this year, scoring only 368 runs at the top of the order. With Dhoni becoming older and having to nurture a successor in time, it will be intriguing to see if Chennai Super Kings try for a captaincy possibility in the upcoming IPL auction.
