Sri Lanka’s franchise cricket tournament is known as the Lanka Premier. The LPL’s second edition is currently underway. The final will be played on December 23 at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium in Hambantota between the Galle Gladiators and the Jaffna Kings.
This season’s LPL has produced some serious cricketing contests that have been enjoyed by cricket fans all over the world. The LPL was live streamed and televised on Sony LIV, Sony Six, and Sony Ten.
As a result, the Indian fans had a great time during the tournament. Several players rose to prominence as a result of their performance in the league. Sri Lanka is one country whose players are universally adored by Indian fans.
With the IPL 2022 Auction quickly approaching, some key players may try their luck in the mega auction. A few of them may also be given the opportunity to showcase their skills in the cash-rich league. Here are five players who could be offered an IPL contract this year.
Avishka Fernando is number one.
Avishka Fernando has 249 runs in nine matches for the Jaffna Kings, with an average of 31.12 and a strike rate of 152.76.
He hit his only century of the season in the second qualifier against Dambulla Giants. He scored 100 runs off 64 balls for Jaffna in the first inning.
Philip Salt is number two.
In the LPL 2021, Philip Salt is the leading run-scorer. He has scored 301 runs in ten matches at a strike rate of 154.36 and an average of 30.10.
Dambulla Giants finished fourth in the points table thanks to his batting efforts. The team defeated Colombo Stars in the elimination game. However, it was defeated by Jaffna Kings by a score of 23 runs in the second qualifier. In that game, Salt scored 22 runs on 11 balls.
Kusal Mendis has 288 runs in nine matches for Galle Gladiators, with an average of 36 and a strike rate of 150.
In the LPL 2021, he has two half-centuries. Mendis scored 85 runs off 53 deliveries in the first qualifier against Jaffna Kings. Galle won the match by 64 runs thanks to his innings, and he was named player of the match for his batting performance.
Maheesh Theekshana, No. 4
For Jaffna Kings, Maheesh Theekshana has 15 wickets in nine matches at an average of 14.46, an economy of 6.20, and a strike rate of 14.
Theekshana also performed well in the T20 World Cup 2021. He took eight wickets in seven matches at a strike rate of 18.7 and an average of 17.12.
Dinesh Chandimal is number five.
Dinesh Chandimal is a well-known name among Indian fans. He has been playing cricket for over 11 years and has several match-winning knocks against the Indian team. During Sri Lanka’s 2017 tour of India, Chandimal scored 164 runs in the third Test while captaining the team.
