On Thursday, Dwayne Bravo of the Chennai Super Kings became the top wicket-taker in the Indian Premier League’s history. At the Brabourne stadium in Mumbai, he achieved the milestone when he dismissed Deepak Hooda of the Lucknow Super Giants on the second delivery of his fourth over.
In the opening game of IPL 2022 against Kolkata Knight Riders, Bravo equaled Lasith Malinga’s long-standing record of most wickets in IPL With 170.
With 145 wickets in 168 IPL games, Ravichandran Ashwin is the current cricketer who comes closest to Malinga and Bravo.
With 166 and 157 wickets, spinners Amit Mishra and Piyush Chawla are third and fourth on the list, respectively, while Harbhajan Singh completes the top five with 150 wickets from 160 games.
With an average of 19.79 and a high of 5/10, Malinga has claimed 170 wickets in only 122 matches. Malinga has six four-wicket hauls and one five-wicket haul, whereas Bravo has two four-wicket hauls and has passed Malinga in his 152nd game.
Malinga, who is presently the Rajasthan Royals’ fast-bowling coach, spent his whole career with the Mumbai Indians. In 2019, he was the franchise’s final representative. The next year, he opted out of the event due to personal concerns.
Bravo also holds the record for the most wickets in T20 cricket. Bravo has collected 575 wickets at an average of 24.08 in 524 appearances since 2006.
