The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are the ten Indian Premier League (IPL) teams who have yet to choose a captain for the 2022 season. The reigning champions Chennai Super Kings will face Kolkata Knight Riders in the first match of the IPL 2022 season on March 26.
The RCB will face the Punjab Kings, headed by Mayank Agarwal, in their opening encounter on March 27. The issue on everyone’s mind, though, is when the next RCB skipper will be named.
Virat Kohli’s side is poised to announce Faf du Plessis as the new captain for the 2022 IPL season. The RCB has scheduled a news conference on March 12 at 4 p.m. to make the announcement. The position of captain has been left vacant by Kohli’s decision to stand out after the IPL 2021 season.
Glenn Maxwell, an Australian all-rounder, was the favourite to replace him, but RCB chose Du Plessis instead. Inside 4 p.m., the announcement will be made at the recently opened RCB Bar & Cafe. On the same day, RCB will debut their new jersey.

The fact that Maxwell was unavailable for the first three matches of the IPL 2022 season worked against him. Despite not being selected for the white-ball series against Pakistan, Cricket Australia has banned all centrally contracted players from appearing in the IPL until April 5, meaning the NOC will only be valid from April 6.
As a consequence, former South African captain Faf du Plessis was chosen ahead of Maxwell. He has extensive leadership experience, having led the team in all three forms, including the World Cup. In the IPL 2021 final versus KKR, Du Plessis was the leading scorer for MS Dhoni’s CSK, and he was a lock to start in Chennai. Du Plessis’ spot in the RCB Playing XI has been secured as an opener, allowing him to take up the charge.
