Vijay Dhull, father of Delhi state team prodigy Yash Dhull, stated he expects his son to be selected by IPL franchise Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2022 auction.
In the blockbuster auction, Yash, who led India’s U19 squad to their sixth ICC World Cup championship last month in the Caribbean, received offers from Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings. The Delhi-based firm was able to get the child for INR 50 lakhs.
According to Vijay Dhull, the 19-year-old athlete has spent about eight years at the Delhi Capitals Academy. Senior Dhull was confident that the Delhi Capitals will pursue his son and complete the transaction.
“It is not your option and beyond your power which side will choose you when you register for the auctions and as a player when you are going under the hammer.”
“However, given Yash’s lengthy association with the Delhi Capitals Academy in Bal Bhavan, Dwarka, where he had practised for the last seven and a half years, we had previously predicted that he would be selected by Delhi Capitals,” Vijay Dhull told India TV.
“I also believe that allowing local lads to play and represent their state-based club in the IPL encourages them tremendously, and it also provides them with a somewhat comfortable homey fabric as rookies.” Even if you see other young guys, they are only picked up by local teams. “Yash was ecstatic to be chosen by DC,” he said.
Dhull made his Ranji Trophy debut for Delhi against Tamil Nadu in 2022, hitting 113 in each of his innings as the match finished in a tie.
Dhull scored 229 runs at an average of 76.33 in four matches in the ICC U19 World Cup, including a match-winning 110 against Australia U19 in the semi-final. As India thrashed Australia by 96 runs, he put up 204 runs with his substitute Shaik Rasheed for the third wicket.
As India’s captain, Dhull joined the likes of Mohammad Kaif, Virat Kohli, Unmkut Chand, and Prithvi Shaw in winning the U19 World Cup.
