Former India wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel has said that he approached Virat Kohli, his former captain, with the notion of getting Bumrah on board, but that Virat refused to give him a chance.
Jasprit Bumrah’s meteoric ascent in international cricket during his early years was incredible, and he is now a crucial part of Indian cricket.
Bumrah’s success is primarily due to his hard work and talents, but Virat Kohli also deserves credit. Bumrah prospered under Kohli’s guidance as his career took off after making his India debut under MS Dhoni.
Kohli, a huge fan of Bumrah, can be seen imitating his motions and reciting famous phrases as a way of expressing his admiration for the Indian bowler.
According to Parthiv Patel, he contacted Virat Kohli with the idea of bringing in Bumrah:
I warned Kohli about a bowler called Bumrah when I was at RCB in 2014. Look him in the eyes. Virat remarked, ‘Chhor na yaar.’ ‘Kya karenge Ye Bumrah-Vumrah?’ ‘Kya karenge Ye Bumrah-Vumrah?’ (I’m going to leave it at that.) “What would such players do?” says the narrator. Parthiv made a comment.
“Bumrah played in the Ranji Trophy during the first 2-3 years of his career. His first election was in 2013, and he performed poorly in 2014. His performance in 2015 was so dismal that he was rumoured to be sent home in the midst of the season.”
“However, he steadily improved, and the Mumbai Indians rallied behind him. “He was only able to attain his full potential because of his hard work and such support,” Parthiv continued.
After a great season for Mumbai Indians in 2015, Bumrah was promptly drafted for India’s limited-overs set-up in January 2016. Bumrah was quickly promoted to captain and commanded India’s speed assault.
Bumrah made his Test debut in 2018, and he immediately established himself as India’s speed spearhead. In his second year, he became the fastest Indian to 50 Test wickets and a hat-trick.
