Shreyas has previously captained the Delhi Capitals (DC) franchise, leading them to their first IPL final appearance in the 2020 season. Due to an injury, he was forced to miss the first half of the 2021 season, with Rishabh Pant filling in as captain. Shreyas returned for the season’s final leg in the UAE, but DC chose to keep Pant as captain. Shreyas was not kept by the franchise following that, which led to him being selected by KKR at the auction.
Shreyas takes over as captain from Eoin Morgan, who led KKR to the final of the IPL 2021.

This will be a new beginning for the two-time IPL champions, and head coach Brendon McCullum expressed his excitement at the prospect of working closely with Shreyas.
