We’re just a few weeks into the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League, and we’ve already witnessed a slew of memorable occurrences. There have been several spectacular catches, a few shocks, and some intriguing players to keep an eye on. With the competition expanded to ten clubs, there was some concern that the IPL would lose quality before it began, but the IPL has only improved in that area, and we are in for a treat in the future.
Punjab Kings will take on Gujarat Titans in the next round of the competition, in a match that will be crucial for both teams. They will both be satisfied with how they have performed thus far, and establishing themselves among the top-four teams will be their first priority.
The match between the two teams will take place on March 8, 2022, at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium. This forthcoming match, based on how these two teams have performed thus far, promises to be a thrilling battle.
Punjab Kings
Punjab Kings’ trademark is obviously the strategy they have chosen to take this season, and it is certainly paying off. They chose to rely on Liam Livingstone, Odean Smith, Bhanuka Rajapaksha, Shikhar Dhawan, and Shahrukh Khan’s star power. Furthermore, Jonny Bairstow has yet to make an appearance for them, which speaks much about the Kings’ batsmanship.
Punjab Kings are without a doubt the team with the most power-hitters, as evidenced by the way they have batted. Punjab Kings had the greatest powerplay run rate of all the teams, at 10.94, which demonstrates their purpose in the opening six overs of batting.
They have won two of the three games they have played so far, totaling four points. They are now ranked fourth on the ladder, thanks to their strong net run rate of 0.238, and will be aiming for the top. With only a net run rate separating the two teams, a win here would put them on par with the Titans.
Punjab Kings have had the most interesting voyage thus far, and given the side they have, they are certain to continue on that path in the future. The Punjab Kings’ slam, bang, wallop style may not always work, but if there’s one team that can pull it off, it’s them.
While the Kings’ batting appears to be packed, their bowling does not appear to be as strong, despite their efforts. They were carted for over 200 in the first match, but then had a number of good outings after that. The recent acquisition of Kagiso Rabada has obviously aided Punjab’s bowling attack, and the Indian bowlers’ performance was superb.
Overall, the Punjab Kings’ recent encounter was arguably their finest with the ball, and if they can keep doing so with the ball, they will be a very dangerous side going forward, especially given their batting order.
Gujarat Titans
Few would have predicted Gujarat Titans to perform as well as they have so far in the tournament or after the auction ended, and they have certainly shocked one in a handful of matches so far. Hardik Pandya’s captaincy has been inspiring, and his team has responded admirably.
Gujarat Titans have won both of their matches thus far in the competition and are presently ranked third in the points table with four points and a fantastic net run rate of 0.495. Gujarat Titans’ bowling has been dominant so far, and they’ll be expecting for their batsmen to step up as well.
Gujarat Titans, on the other hand, have benefited from some outstanding bowling by their bowlers. They have a bowling assault that can confuse even the best batsmen with seam, swing, pace, and variations. Not only have they taken wickets early on, but they also have the second-best economy rate in the powerplay phase, at 6.25. They are one of the few teams in the league to win while defending, which speaks volumes about their bowling attack.
Even though they have won both of their matches, things are not going well for them. Their batting hasn’t performed as well as they would have wanted, and Vijay Shankar may be forced to sit out the next encounter. One advantage they have is that they bat deep, with David Miller, Rahul Tewatia, and Rashid Khan available at six, seven, and eight positions, respectively.
On paper, the Gujarat Titans are a bowling-heavy team, but they have enough batsmanship to put even the best to the test. Shubhman Gill, Matthew Wade, Hardik Pandya, and David Miller are expected to make an impact in what is a crucial match for them. Given their bowling attack’s current form, if they can improve their batting, getting past them in the following matches might be extremely difficult.
