Faf du Plessis has declared his retirement from test cricket

Faf du Plessis, one of South Africa’s finest batsmen and captains, has declared his retirement from Test cricket. Following a terrible tour of Pakistan, Du Plessis made the announcement on Wednesday. Notably, South Africa had just lost a Test series to Pakistan away from home.

Since then, Faf du Plessis’ style has been scrutinised, as the seasoned batsman has suffered on the tour. Du Plessis, on the other hand, scored a scintillating century during South Africa’s recent tour of Sri Lanka, silenced his opponents who had been debating his form since last year.

The Proteas were set to play Australia in a three-match series later this month, but the tour was cancelled at the last minute due to Covid-19 worries, causing Du Plessis to withdraw from Test cricket.

The most notable victories under du Plessis’ leadership came against Australia, whom the Proteas overcame both at home and away in 2018. Du Plessis ended his Test career with a 40.03 average and 4163 runs in 69 Tests. In the game’s longest style, he has 10 centuries and 21 half-centuries to his credit.
