Bairstow is an excellent batsman and wicketkeeper for England, especially in limited-overs cricket. He can bat anywhere in the batting order, but the top spot is where he can do the most harm.
He’s one of those players who enjoys honing his catching abilities. However, due to his superb outfielding abilities, he is often found manning the boundary ropes. He hasn’t yet worked out how to score major runs in Tests the way he does in shorter formats. He is also a successful footballer and rugby player, in addition to his cricketing ability. He’s also represented Leeds United’s youth team.

Career
Domestic career
In the early stages of his career, he played for the Yorkshire second XI. In 2008, his excellent performance secured him a call-up to the first team. He had cemented a spot in the side for the next two years.
He scored over 40 in both 2010 and 2011, but after several attempts, he was unable to hit the three-figure mark. However, in 2011, he made history by becoming the first Yorkshire cricketer to score 1000 runs in a calendar year. He improved as a batsman as a result of his selection for the England Performance Programme squad in Australia.
International career
Bairstow made his international debut against India in an ODI at Cardiff on September 16, 2011. In their 50 overs, the Indian cricket team batted first and scored 304 runs. The match was called off due to rain, and the goal was changed to 241 in 41 overs. Jonny had a strong performance, scoring 41 runs off just 21 balls to help the home side win the match. With 10 deliveries to spare, England won the match by 6 wickets. For his quickfire innings, the debutant earned the ‘Man of the Match’ trophy.
On September 23, 2011, he made his T20I debut at The Oval in London against the West Indies. The visitors were bowled out for 125 runs, and the hosts chased it off with 10 wickets in hand and 28 balls to spare. Bairstow, who did not get a chance to bat, made his T20I debut alongside Ben Stokes, who did not bat or bowl either.
Jonny made his Test debut against the West Indies at Lord’s on May 17, 2012. On the fifth and final day of a low-scoring Test match, he scored 16 in the first innings and stayed unbeaten on 0 in the second as England chased down the mark of 191 runs.
He was picked to play for England in the 2012 ICC World T20 in Sri Lanka after putting in strong performances for the national team. He only managed 38 runs in five games in the tournament before they were eliminated in the Super 8 round.
In 2013, he was a member of England’s squads for all three formats of the game on their tour to New Zealand. During the 2013/14 Ashes series, he did, however, hold wickets for England in a Test for the first time. For the next year and a half, he was left out of England’s lineup.
In 2015, he made his maiden Test century (150*) and shared a record sixth-wicket partnership of 399 runs with Ben Stokes (258). This innings meant that Bairstow would be able to hold his spot for a few more games and that he could play comfortably without fear of losing his spot.
He continued to score at a high pace while still doing a decent job with the gloves. In 2016, he was called to the ICC World Test XI. Six years after his debut, he scored his first three hundreds in the ODI format in 2017. He was also named to the ICC World ODI XI in 2018.
He was then named as an opener for the 2019 ICC World Cup. In 11 games, he scored 532 runs and won the starting role. Against semi-finalists India and New Zealand, he scored hundreds of points. He was the captain of England’s aggressive batting line-up that contributed to the country’s first-ever World Cup win at Lord’s Cricket Ground.
IPL and PSL career
Before the Pakistan Super League 2017/18, Bairstow was signed by Peshawar Zalmi. He’s already a member of the business. He is yet to feature in a game in the tournament.
In November 2018, he competed for the Kerala Kings in the Sharjah T10 League. He hit the highest individual score in the tournament so far, scoring 84 runs off 24 balls.
In 2019, the Englishman had his first experience of the Indian Premier League. Even though Bairstow was going to abandon the tournament halfway for a World Cup training camp, the Sunrisers Hyderabad paid INR 2.2 crores for him.
He did not let the team’s management or supporters down. After David Warner, he was the top run scorer for the Hyderabad franchise. Warner, on the other hand, was in a different league entirely, scoring nearly 100 runs more than second-placed KL Rahul. After Warner’s outstanding performance, Bairstow was the SRH’s best batsman.
Jonny drove in 445 runs in 10 innings, averaging 55.62 runs per inning. Another highlight of his tournament run was his brilliant strike rate of 157.24. He also scored a century against RCB, making him the first wicket-keeper from SRH to do so. If he is available, he is expected to be a member of the same team in IPL 2020.
Family
Jonny Bairstow was born in Bradford, West Yorkshire, to David and Janer Bairstow. In 25 international games, his hero, David Bairstow, also held wickets for England. Andrew Bairstow, his half-brother, was once a First-Class wicketkeeper for Derbyshire.
