Career

Domestic Career

Natarajan, like any other Indian child, took up tennis-ball cricket as a pastime. However, a well-wisher from his village noticed Natarajan’s bowling ability and encouraged him to try his hand at local competitive cricket. Natarajan moved to Chennai and joined a cricket club after being influenced by the words.

He first attracted recognition when he played for the BSNL team in the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association’s fourth division competition. Natarajan then spent nearly a year playing first-class cricket for Vijay Cricket Club. Later, he joined Jolly Rovers, a renowned club that has produced stars such as Ravichandran Ashwin and Murali Vijay.

On the 5th of January, 2015, Natarajan made his first-class debut for Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy. He made a brilliant debut by taking three wickets in the first innings of a match that ended in a tie. Natarajan has 27 wickets at an economy of 3.34 in 16 first-class innings. Natarajan made his debut in the Tamil Nadu Premier League in 2016, when he played for Dindigul Dragons in the inaugural season (TNPL).

Natarajan has been a favourite of the Tamil Nadu Ranji Trophy selectors thanks to his low average and economy, as well as the certainty of taking wickets.

IPL Career

Natarajan, a real rags-to-riches tale, joined the million-dollar club when Kings XI Punjab paid him 3 crores for IPL 2017 after his outstanding domestic season and first season of the TNPL. In his first IPL season, he appeared in six games and took two wickets. Natarajan was traded to Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2018 after a disappointing season with KXIP, and he has been retained for the 2020 season.

Background

Natarajan’s family didn’t have a lot of income. His mother also operates a roadside snack stall while his father works as a porter at a train station. Natarajan, the eldest of five siblings, including three sisters, was still concerned about caring for his relatives. Cricket, on the other hand, has been a lifesaver for the Natarajans.
