Shreyas Gopal is a talented Indian cricketer who was born on September 4, 1994 in Karnataka. He is a right-handed batsman and all-rounder who bowls right-arm leg breaks.

Career

Domestic Career

In his early years as a Karnataka player, he captained the state’s under-13, under-15, under-16, and under-19 teams. In the 2013-14 Ranji season, Shreyas Gopal made his Karnataka debut in his first class games. In his first Ranji season, he took 22 wickets at an incredible pace of 18. Karnataka retained the title that year (13-14) amid a lack of all-round results. In 2014, he was also a part of the Irani Cup, where he scored a hattrick against the rest of India.He scored a couple of centuries for Karnataka in his second Ranji season (14-15). He scored 693 runs in 13 matches (average 46.20) in the 2014-15 Ranji tournament, including two centuries and three fifties. He was called to India A’s squad for the 2018–19 Deodhar Trophy in October 2018. He was called to the India Blue team’s squad for the 2019–20 Duleep Trophy in August 2019.

IPL Career

Shreyas made his IPL debut in 2014, after good domestic results with Mumbai Indians. Also, after being impressed by Gopal’s bowling, Anil Kumble recommended him to the Mumbai Indians for the IPL-7. However, during his tenure with the MI franchise, he earned very few chances and was finally picked up by Rajasthan Royals in the 2018 auctions. Shreyas took 20 wickets in 14 games for the Rajasthan Royals in 2019, including a hat-trick against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Shreyas Gopal will be a main player for RR in the IPL 2020, which will be held in the United Arab Emirates.

Background

Gopal is well-known for his sharp spinning leg breaks, which have decimated opposing batsmen. Shreyas is a well-rounded batsman. He was mostly a batsman, but as his leg breaks progressed, he became more of a bowling allrounder. He earned his bachelor’s degree in commerce from Bengaluru’s Jain University. Gopal’s father, Ramaswamy Gopal, played club cricket for 20 years, and his mother, Amitha, was a state volleyball player. He used to imitate his role model Anil Kumble’s bowling action when he was younger.
