Chris Morris began his cricket career in 2009 with the North West cricket team, a South African first-class cricket team. Since then, he has represented his country and a number of T20 clubs, including the Indian Premier League’s Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, and Delhi Daredevils, as well as the Lions, South African Invitation XI, South Africa A, Titans, Surrey, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, and Durban Qalandars.
When it comes to bowling, he is a strong finisher as well as a deadly death bowler. He rose to notoriety after agreeing a lucrative contract for the 2013 IPL, where he made his debut. Chennai Super Kings paid $625,000 for him after he was purchased for a base price of $20,000.
Debut
On June 10, 2013, Chris Morris made his One Day International debut against Pakistan at Edgbaston. He’s played 29 One-Day Internationals since then. He has 324 runs earned in 19 innings pitched, with a strike rate of 97.6 and a high of 62.
In terms of bowling, his remarkable numbers make us wonder why he hasn’t represented his country at a younger age. With an economy of 5.56 and an average of 36.55 runs per wicket, he has 33 wickets in 28 innings.
On January 2, 2016, he made his Test debut against England at Newlands. He has only played four test matches as a rookie to the game. He has a record of 173 runs in 7 batting innings, with a top test score of 69.
He has bowled 623 balls in 8 innings, conceding 459 runs and taking 12 wickets, with his best bowling innings being 38/3 and his best bowling match being 45/5. He also has an excellent economy of 4.42 runs per over and a wicket score of 38.25.
Rise to glory
Chris Morris rose to prominence in First Class cricket during the 2011/12 season, when he was the top wicket-taker in the domestic T20 competition with 21 wickets.
Later that season, he assisted his Lions squad in reaching the 2012 Champions League final. In 2013, he was signed by Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, where his outstanding performance helped his team reach the finals, where they were defeated by Mumbai Indians.
The Delhi Daredevils signed him for $1 million in 2016. By ending the season as the club’s top wicket-taker, he proved he was worth every cent the club paid.
