The wicketkeeper-batsman was born on March 9, 1985, in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and represented Gujarat in first-class cricket. He was the youngest wicketkeeper to play in a Test match, and he received a lot of support from Sourav Ganguly when the Indian cricket team was searching for new players in the early 2000s.
Career
Domestic Career
A baby-faced woman In the year 2000, Parthiv Patel made his first-class debut against Haryana. He was soon selected into the national team due to his outstanding hitting abilities.
Parthiv scored his first List-A century in 2015, helping Gujarat win the Vijay Hazare Trophy for the first time. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 league, he tallied up four fifties from nine innings, as well as a century against India A in the Deodhar Trophy.
He is the new captain of the Gujarat team, which won the Ranji Trophy in 2016–17.
The team reached the final for the second time, defeating Odisha and Jharkhand in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively. In January, they faced defending champions Mumbai in the final in Indore. Patel helped Gujarat win its first Ranji trophy by scoring 90 runs in the first inning and 143 runs in the second. In his domestic FC career, Parthiv has played 187 games and scored 10,797 runs at a 43.36 average.
IPL Career
Patel was originally auctioned to Chennai Super Kings in the inaugural Indian Premier League (IPL) and spent three seasons with CSK, where he had less opportunities and was largely unsuccessful. Kochi Tuskers Kerala has signed him for the fourth season. The franchise was terminated after that, and Parthiv was signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2013 and Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2014.
Mumbai Indians signed Patel as an opening batsman for the 2015 IPL season. After a shaky start in the IPL 2015, Parthiv found his stride in the second half of the tournament, scoring 339 runs to finish as the fourth-leading batsman in Mumbai Indians’ triumphant campaign.
RCB purchased him for Rs. 1.7 crore at the 2018 IPL auction. Parthiv has scored 526 runs in 20 matches for RCB in the last two seasons. In the 2020 season, the RCB team management will be hoping that Parthiv turns those 30s and 40s into major totals. Youngsters like Devdutt Padikkal are waiting in the wings to take their chance at opening the innings, putting pressure on Parthiv.
International Career
In January 2003, Patel made his One-Day International debut against New Zealand. He also went to South Africa with the squad for the 2003 Cricket World Cup, skipping his high school board exams in the process. He was dropped from the national team after the rise of former captain MS Dhoni.
At the age of 17 years and 153 days, Parthiv made his Test debut against England at Trent Bridge in 2002, becoming Test cricket’s youngest wicketkeeper. By scoring an undefeated 19 in the second innings, he rescued India from an innings defeat. Parthiv later went on to play in the Australia and Pakistan tours, where he did admirably well, but his glovework behind the stumps forced selectors to look for other alternatives. With the additions of Dinesh Karthik and MS Dhoni, Parthiv’s chances of wearing the white flannels have dwindled.
He made a return to the Indian squad for the 2008 series in Sri Lanka after some eye-catching displays during the A Tours of Zimbabwe and South Africa, as well as consistent performances in the domestic circuit for Gujarat. However, he remained ineffective behind the stumps, and he missed his opportunity, with Dhoni coming back in the following series.
Due to the injury to wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha, Parthiv was called up to the test team for the third test in Mohali. With two strong innings, including an unbeaten 67 runs from 54 balls in the second innings, he proved the selectors’ decision was right, leading India to victory.
Background
With 17 years of age, Parthiv was the youngest wicket-keeper in Test history. He slammed Steve Waugh during the 2004 Border-Gavaskar series in Australia, saying, “Come on Steve, just one more of your famous slog-sweeps before you leave,” to which Waugh responded, “Show a bit of respect.” When I made my debut 18 years ago, you were only in diapers.”
