Shanthakumaran Sreesanth is an Indian cricketer who was born in Kothamangalam, Kerala, on February 2, 1983. He bowled right handed medium fast for his team and was mainly a bowler.
Sreesanth began his career as a leg spinner, but he later switched to fast bowling. Tinu Yohannan, a former Kerala Ranji player, supported him in being admitted into the National Cricket Academy in the year 2000. In the 2002-03 season, his results earned him a spot in the Kerala Ranji team against Goa. After taking 22 wickets in Ranji matches, he was picked for the South Zone in the Duleep Trophy. After recovering from a hamstring injury, he returned a year later and scored a hat-trick against Himachal.
Debut
In 2005, Sreesanth made his ODI debut against England, where he failed to take wickets. As a result, he was able to add to the bench strength after the game.
In March 2006, he made his test debut against England for the second time. In the match, he took four wickets, all of which came in the first innings.
Rise to Glory
Sreesanth went unseen by cricket fans until the high-octane series against Pakistan in 2006, when he was named Man of the Match after taking five wickets in the fifth match.
After taking 5 wickets to cause the Proteas to bundle out at 84 in their first test on South African soil in 2006, Sreesanth helped India win their first test on South African soil.
Despite a bad showing in the 2007 ICC World T20, he is remembered as the man who took Misbah ul Haq’s catch in the finals and helped India win the tournament.
Club Career
Sreesanth represented Kerala in the Ranji Trophy and the IPL with Kings XI Punjab, Kochi Tuskers Kerala, and Rajasthan Royals. His inconsistency caused him to turn sides every two years, and then the spot-fixing incident put an end to his career.
Retirement
Sreesanth hasn’t formally retired, but his lifetime suspension means he won’t be able to play cricket again. As a result, he has shifted his focus to other pursuits.
