Subramaniam Badrinath Bio

Subramaniam Badrinath is a batsman from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. He was born on August 30, 1980, and has been a regular performer for Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy, including serving as captain for a time.

He is a right-handed batsman who can also bowl off break with his right arm. In domestic cricket, his technique is highly esteemed. He is known for his deft strokes and the calm demeanour that is expected to wear out most bowlers.

He was known as “Mr. Dependable” because of his consistency as a batsman in the middle order.

Background

Badrinath was a huge Sachin Tendulkar fan when he was in elementary school. In the year 2000, he made his first-class debut for Tamil Nadu.

With his performances, he became a critical cog in the Tamil Nadu batting line-up, but he didn’t draw any attention until 2005-2006.

Due to fewer chances with Tamil Nadu, Badrinath now represents Vidarbha in the Ranji Trophy.

Debut

He made his international debut against Sri Lanka in an ODI on August 20, 2008. He was a personified figure on the pitch as India chased down a lowly goal of 143 and comfortably saw off the winning runs.

However, despite failing to make an impact at the international stage, his 27 not out result that day remains his best in ODIs.

In February 2010, he made his Test debut for India, and he only played one more test match for the nation. In June 2011, he appeared in one Twenty20 International for India and was named Man of the Match.

Rise to Glory

Badrinath shot to national prominence during the 2005-06 Ranji Trophy season, scoring 636 runs in seven matches at an average of just under 80. With one match less played, he lost out on the top scorer spot by 36 runs.

He was granted the captaincy of Tamil Nadu as a result of his success. In the following season, he put in another strong showing and was selected for India’s ODI series against Australia.

He never got the opportunity to prove himself, however, as he never made it into the starting XI. Following his performances in the Indian Premier League, he made his international debut two years back.

Domestic Career

He was a standout for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, scoring over 1300 runs in the tournament. Through his sound technique, he always had to play the part of the rescuer in a squad full of power hitters.

He has 145 first-class matches under his belt and is well-liked in the domestic circuit.

Records

Badrinath has a remarkable 10,000 first-class runs under his belt, having crossed the plateau in 2016.
