Joe Burns Bio

Joseph Anthony Burns, also known as Joe Burns, is an Australian top-order right-handed batsman who was born in Queensland, Australia, on September 6, 1989.

Background

Joe made a brilliant debut for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield, scoring a century against South Australia. He improved as a batsman over time, earning him a call-up to Australia’s A team.

He also scored a century there, and he was declared Bradman Young Cricketer of the Year not long after, and a call to the national team was not far behind.

Debut

Burns made his international debut in a Boxing Day Test against India at the MCG in 2014, after all of his impressive appearances. He batted in the middle order but was unable to make a meaningful impact.

In the following match, he scored fifties in both innings. Unlike his test debut, his ODI debut in 2015 was very good, as he scored a half century against Ireland.

Rise to Glory

Burns’ career has been on and off from the start, but his first century came against New Zealand at the Gabba. In Christchurch, New Zealand, he has had one of his finest innings of his career, making 170 runs.

Club Career

As Brisbane Heat beat Perth Scorchers in the 2012-13 Big Bash League season finale, he was the team’s top scorer. Since their former overseas player Ramnaresh Sarwan was injured, Joe’s performances won him a deal with Leicester Shire.

In the most recent Sheffield Shield (2017-18), he scored his first double century for Queensland against South Australia.

Records

Joe Burns is the second-leading run scorer for his Brisbane Heat BBL team. Over the course of four years, he has scored 693 runs at a respectable average of 29.
