Rohit Sharma ended his century-long drought and posted his triple-digit score for the first time in over 500 days. Rohit lost the throw but the Indian captain had no reason to worry given how the situation unfolded after his New Zealand counterpart Tom Latham invited the hosts to bat . Rohit made his ODI 100 for the 30th time, getting there on just his 83 pitches and forging an excellent 212-run partnership with his partner Shubman Gill in the opening. Rohit and Gill become the fifth Indian opening couple to score a century in the same match.
It took a long time, but Rohit finally reached its long-awaited century. He spent his entire 2022 without reaching his 100th goal in any format. It didn’t last as long as his Virat Kohli, but the Indian captain finally got the monkey off his back. It’s not that Rohit’s form was cause for concern – he was always starting and hitting his 50s, 70s and 80s – a century missed him, obsessed with statistics and centuries. Rohit’s 101 batting average made him 85 balls for the cricket nation. He breathes in with great relief.

New Zealand fought back with Blair his Tickner and Jacob Duffy taking two wickets each, but India’s quest for 400 went tough wicket by wicket. A bad run between Ishan Ishan and Kohli left India wicket-keeper short and Virat fell while trying to clear the fielders down the middle. India in the end he finished with 385/9 but could have scored much more had it not been for a small collapse along the way.
