Ahmed Shehzad was born in the Pakistani city of Lahore on November 23, 1991. He is a right-handed opening batsman with experience in all three formats of cricket.
Background
Ahmed made his first-class debut in 2007, and later that year he also played for the under-19 team. The same year, he scored a superb 167 against England in a Test series, helping his side chase down a challenging score of 342.
His form did not wane as he continued to put up outstanding performances against the Australians and then Bangladesh.
With such outstanding results at the youth level, he was easily picked for the senior team.
Debut
Ahmed made his One-Day International debut against Australia in April 2009, but he was run out for just four runs.
A month back, he made his T20 debut, which was far from ideal, scoring just four runs against Australia.
When Ahmed made his Test debut against Sri Lanka, he had another chance to show his merit. He was able to score 38 runs in the first innings, opening the innings with Khurram Manzoor. He then went on to record his first half-century in Test cricket, scoring 55 off 109 balls in the second innings.
Low Points
Discipline problems and on-field squabbles are sadly a feature of Shehzad’s profession.
He was suspended for a match in 2011 for opposition in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, the second time he had been banned in as many months.
Because of his repeated squabbles with Srilankan player Dilshan, the Pakistan Cricket Board had to reprimand Shehzad. Shehzad was cut from the Cricket World Cup team in 2015 due to his poor name and a long history of indiscipline.
Rise to Glory
In cricket, Ahmed undoubtedly had his best year in 2014. In Tests, he scored 141 against Sri Lanka and 131 against Australia.
He performed admirably against Bangladesh and New Zealand, scoring 103 and 113 runs respectively in the ODIs he played that year, demonstrating his contribution to his side.
Records
Ahmed Shehzad is Pakistan’s only batsman to score hundreds in any of the three formats of the game. In addition, he is the only Pakistani to hit the most sixes and runs in a T20 innings.
