Azhar Ali is a Pakistani right-handed batsman who was born on February 19, 1985 in Lahore, Punjab.
Background
Azhar was one of the few Pakistani batsmen to make his Test debut before his ODI debut, which he did in 2010 against Australia.
Debut
In July 2010, Azhar made his Test debut against Australia at Lord’s.
He scored 51 in just his second match, assisting Pakistan in chasing a 180-run target with three wickets down at Leeds.
Rise to glory
Azhar won the name of one of Australia’s best batsmen after scoring 159 in one of the Test series’ matches against England in Birmingham in August 2016.
This is one of the few times that a person’s creativity has been recognised.
Low points
Pakistan won only 12 ODIs thus losing 18 to Australia under his captaincy, and after losing 4-1 to Australia, Azhar was forced to resign as captain.
Club career
Azhar has represented the Lahore Eagles in the Faysal Bank T20 Cup in 2012, the Lahore Lions in the President’s Cup One Day Tournament in 2013, and the Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League in 2016.
Captaincy
Azhar took over as captain after the 2015 World Cup, but Pakistan fell to No. 9 in ODIs under his leadership, and he stood down in February 2017 after losing the ODI series against Australia.
Records
Azhar Ali became the eighth Pakistan cricketer to score 5000 runs in a Test format on the third day of the test against Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi in 2017.
