Hasan Ali is a Pakistani cricketer who has represented his country in all three formats since 2016.
He was born in Mandi Bahauddin, Punjab, Pakistan, on February 7, 1994. He is a dominant right-arm medium-fast bowler who can also bat down the order as a right-handed batsman.
On October 18, 2017, against Sri Lanka, he became the fifth-fastest bowler in ODI history and the first Pakistani to reach 50 wickets.
Background
He made his first-class debut against Lahore Ravi when he was 19 years old, taking four wickets in the first innings.
In the 2015 National T20 Cup, where he picked up eight wickets in four matches, scouts spotted a natural potential with a combination of variations.
His 17 wickets in the National One-Day Cup in 2016 attracted enough recognition for him to be picked by Peshawar Zalmi in the first season of the PSL under the emerging category.
Debut
On the 18th of August 2016, he made his debut in the first ODI of Pakistan’s tour of England and Ireland in Dublin.
The match was a one-sided affair, with Pakistan winning by 255 runs and Ali struggling to pick up a wicket in his five overs.
He made his T20I debut against England on September 7, 2016, bowling 2/24 and claiming the wickets of Joe Root and Ben Stokes at Manchester.
On the 10th of May 2017, during Pakistan’s tour of the West Indies, he made his debut in the longest format of the game, picking up three wickets in the second innings after struggling to get any in the first.
Rise to Glory
He was named in the 15-man squad for the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy after impressing for Pakistan in ODIs.
Pakistan went on to win the tournament, and Ali was given the Golden Ball for his thirteen wickets, which tied for the most in the tournament.
In his first ICC event, he was named player of the tournament.
In October 2017, he rose to the top of the ICC ODI rankings for bowlers after becoming the third-fastest player to claim 50 ODI wickets in the fastest time of all time, taking just 426 days from debut.
In 2017, he was awarded the ICC’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year and the PCB’s Emerging Player of the Year after taking the most wickets in ODIs by any bowler, with 45 dismissals in 18 matches.
In one-day internationals, he ended 2017 as the top-ranked fast bowler in the ICC Player Rankings.
Club Career
In the Pakistan Super League, he plays for Peshawar Zalmi. In 2017, he was an overseas player for the Comilla Victorians of the Bangladesh Premier League and a backup for Kieran Powell for the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the Caribbean Premier League.
