Afsar Zazai Bio

Afsar Khan zazai is an Afghan cricketer who was born in Kabul on August 10, 1993. He is a right-handed wicket keeper batsman who acts as his team’s primary wicket keeper. His most significant accomplishment is becoming the first Afghan wicketkeeper to play Test cricket.

Debut

Afsar Zazai made his Test debut against India in Bengaluru on June 14, 2018. However, he only managed to score 6 runs in the first inning and 1 run in the second, resulting in Afghanistan losing the match by an innings and 262 runs. During the game, he had two catches behind the wicket.

Afsar Zazai made his One Day International debut against the United Arab Emirates in Abu Dhabi on November 28, 2014. He hit 60 runs off 109 balls while both catching and stumping the opposition. UAE, on the other hand, won the match by 5 wickets.

On October 11, 2013, Afsar Zazai made his T20 international debut against Kenya in Sharjah. He was unable to score more than 9 runs and was trapped behind the wickets once. Kenya dominated the match by a total of 34 runs.

Afsar Zazai made his First Class debut against the Netherlands in the 2012 ICC Intercontinental Cup in Sharjah on April 2, 2012. He put in a fantastic display in the match, catching five catches behind the wicket. In the second innings of the match, he also scored an unbeaten 84 runs, leading to an Afghan victory by three wickets.

Afsar made his List A debut in Hyderabad (Sindh), where he took two catches behind the wickets against Hyderabad & Karachi. He was not given the opportunity to bat, however, as the Afghanistan cricket team won the match by 9 wickets in just 18.4 overs.

Rise to Glory

Afsar Zazai was known for his wicket-keeping abilities, and he represented Afghanistan in the 2010 U-19 World Cup. He later went on to participate in the 2012 U-19 World Cup in Australia. He was named to Afghanistan’s national T20I team after returning from the World Cup. Gradually, he was assigned to Afghanistan’s One-Day International and Test teams.

Low Points

Though Afsar is a capable wicketkeeper who idolises former Indian captain MS Dhoni, he struggles with the bat. He has missed his place in different squads as a result of this, but his consistency is improving day by day, contributing to a steady spot in the national team.

Club Career

In the 2018-19 season of the Afghanistan Premier League, Afsar Zazai played for the Kabul Zawanan franchise, but his success was not remarkable as he only played one match and scored 6 runs off 13 balls.
