KM Asif, also known as Mohammed Asif, is an Indian cricketer who was born in Edavanna, Malappuram, on July 24, 1993. For the Kerala state team, Asif is mainly a right-arm medium pace bowler. As a tail ender, Asif bats right-handed lower in the order.
Asif’s first passion was cricket, but he had to put his hopes of being a professional cricketer on hold in order to serve as a storekeeper at a beer bottling plant due to financial constraints. Asif’s father works odd jobs as a casual wager. His mother was a stay-at-home mom. His younger brother is physically challenged, and his younger sister has struggled after sustaining a brain injury in her childhood. Asif has become the only source of income.
Career
Domestic
During the 2018 Syed Mushtaq Ali South Zone group stages, Asif made his first appearance for Kerala. At Visakhapatnam, he made his debut against Goa and amazed everyone with his pace. On the speed gun, one of the deliveries he bowled against Goa clocked 144 kmph, bringing him to the attention of all. From a total of 25 runs, he managed to take three wickets. In the following game against Karnataka, he took 2/34, including the wickets of top scorer Mayank Agarwal and Ravikumar Samarth.
Asif was given his List A debut against Himachal Pradesh at Nadaun after his outstanding performance in the shorter format of the game. He chose 3/65 to commemorate the day. After his first spell in the IPL, he made his first-class debut in December 2019 for his state team in the Ranji Trophy’s 2019-20 season.
IPL career
KM Asif was one of the last players to register for the 2018 Indian Premier League auctions, and his starting price was set at INR 20 lakhs. After a brief bidding war with Mumbai Indians, he was initially purchased for 40 lakhs by Chennai Super Kings. Due to an injury to Deepak Chahar, he made his IPL debut against the Delhi Daredevils in Pune that season. While Asif has only appeared in two games for the franchise, he has been retained as a back-up fast bowler.
