Mike Hussey, the batting coach for the Chennai Super Kings, and L Balaji, the bowling coach, have been flown in from Delhi in an air ambulance as they recover from COVID-19, according to a top franchise official. When the IPL was “indefinitely suspended” on Tuesday, after several COVID-19 cases within the bio-bubble, Hussey and Balaji were among the influential non-playing workers to test positive.
“We chose to fly Hussey and Balaji to Chennai because we have better connections here and wanted to ensure better medical facilities in case of an emergency,” a CSK official told PTI.
He went on to say that the two were “asymptomatic and doing well.”
Hussey will have to wait for a COVID-19 negative report before leaving the region, according to the CSK official.
“Before Hussey can leave India, he must first obtain a COVID negative examination. When it is secure for him to board, we will make plans for a charter “Added the official.
Though Hussey will have to wait, the majority of the Australians who are competing in the IPL left for the Maldives on Thursday to complete their waiting time before flying back to Australia.
According to a CSK spokesperson, the franchise made plans for the team’s international players to fly out on charter planes.
CSK captain MS Dhoni will leave for his hometown Ranchi in the afternoon after the rest of his team has reported to their respective bases, according to the official.
The IPL 2021 season was halted after four players tested positive for COVID-19 in the bio-bubble: SunRisers Hyderabad batsman Wriddhiman Saha, Delhi Capitals spinner Amit Mishra, and KKR’s Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier.
