The ICC has cancelled the Americas, Asia, and EAP Qualifiers for the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup owing to Covid-19.
The three events cannot be held due to ICC Development Committee and ICC Board guidelines.
Canada, the UAE, and Papua New Guinea will all qualify for the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2022, the ICC said on Wednesday.
Aside from the responsibility of care for minors, the members agreed ICC Covid rules for all pathway events, which clearly explain the limits under which events can or cannot go ahead due to Covid restrictions.
“Three regional qualifications for the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup have been cancelled owing to COVID-19,” said ICC Head of Events Chris Tetley. We had no choice but to cancel these three tournaments due to team withdrawals due to the epidemic.
For these events, we worked closely with all Members to ensure results could be established on the field of play. According to the ICC Board’s decision in November 2020, Canada, the UAE, and PNG will all qualify for the U19 Men’s CWC.”
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup Africa has been moved from Nigeria to Rwanda.
