T20 WORLDCUP REPORT : According to reports, Afghanistan’s participation in the T20 World Cup could be jeopardised if they compete under the Taliban’s banner.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is expected to restrict Afghanistan’s national side from competing in the global event if they play under the Taliban’s flag.

According to The Telegraph, the ICC will convene an extraordinary board meeting to address Afghanistan’s decision to compete in the T20 World Cup under the Taliban flag. Following that, a board meeting could vote to suspend the side.

However, for the time being, the apex body expects them to play with the country’s flag, as they have in prior global competitions.

Afghanistan is in a group with India, Pakistan, New Zealand, and two additional teams that have yet to qualify.

The Taliban has stated publicly that they will not allow women to engage in sports, implying that the Afghanistan women’s cricket team will be disbanded.

According to ICC rules, a Test-playing nation must have a women’s cricket team. This could have an impact on Afghanistan’s men’s cricket team’s participation in Test cricket.

At the end of November, Afghanistan will meet Australia in a single Test match in Hobart.

However, if the Afghanistan women’s team is banned from international cricket, Cricket Australia (CA) has threatened to cancel the series.
