Gujarat Titans (GT) have signed Afghanistan wicket-keeper batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz as a substitute for England opener Jason Roy ahead of the IPL 2022 season.
Roy had left the league because he didn’t want to spend lengthy amounts of time inside bio-bubbles. He decided to take an extended hiatus from cricket in order to concentrate on his mental health.
In the IPL 2022 super auction, GT purchased Roy for his basic price of INR 2 crores. GT was looking for a substitute since he would not be able to participate, and they found one in Gurbaz.
The 20-year-old has appeared in 20 Twenty20 Internationals for Afghanistan, scoring 534 runs with a strike rate of 138. His starting price was INR 50 lakhs, and GT was able to get him for the same amount.
“Gurbaz, who joins Gujarat Titans at a base price of INR 50 lakh, will join Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad as the franchise’s third Afghanistan player,” according to an official release on the IPL website.
Gurbaz has previously competed in a number of leagues. In the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), he played for the Khulna Tigers, Kandy Tuskers in the Lanka Premier League (LPL), and Multan Sultans and Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
