The success of Indian players as captains in a game like the IPL will eventually assist the national team because the leadership role aids in the development of cricketers, according to head coach Rahul Dravid.
Hardik Pandya led Gujarat Titans to the IPL title in their first season, while KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and Sanju Samson also did great work as captains of their respective clubs (IPL).
Rahul steered newcomers Lucknow Super Giants to the playoffs in their first season, and Samson impressed with his captaincy, leading Rajasthan Royals to a second-place finish this season.
“It’s fantastic that we have so many Indian captains succeeding. One of them was Hardik. Brilliant. KL did an excellent job at LSG, and Sanju did an excellent job at RR. At a press conference, Dravid stated, “Shreyas in KKR.”
“It is absolutely fantastic to watch the young bats leading the club. It assists people in growing and developing as players by requiring them to lead teams in making decisions. It allows you to develop as a person and a gamer.
“From our standpoint, it’s fantastic that the younger Indian players are doing so well in the IPL,” he continued.
India will face South Africa in a five-match T20 series that begins here on Thursday.
Several fresh faces have been added to India’s side, and the series will also feature Pandya and Dinesh Karthik, who are returning after successful IPL seasons.
Pandya, who was axed from the team after the team’s disastrous group-round loss from the T20 World Cup last year due to a back issue, returned to competitive cricket in the IPL this year.
He was instrumental in the Titans’ victory, contributing with both the bat and the ball, something that the Indian squad sorely lacked during the World Cup last year.
“It’s great to have him back,” says the narrator. Hardik Pandya is a superb player with both the bat and the ball when he is at his best. He’s had a lot of success in white-ball cricket and has been in great form in this IPL,” Dravid said.
The former Indian cricketer praised Pandya’s captaincy abilities and stated that they are aiming to maximise Pandya’s potential for India.
“In the IPL, his leadership was really amazing, and he performed wonderfully.” To be a part of the leadership group, you don’t have to be a designated leader.
“From our standpoint, the fact that he has resumed bowling is a good at this moment.” It’s all about ensuring that we can get the most out of him in terms of contributions as a cricketer.
