Anil Kumble, a legendary spinner for India, has left his position as head coach of the Punjab Kings after the IPL team elected not to extend his contract.
Several owners, including Bollywood actor Preity Zinta, businessmen Mohit Burman, Ness Wadia, and Karan Paul, as well as the team’s CEO Satish Menon, decided to break ways with Kumble, according to an ESPNcricinfo report.
An announcement regarding the new coach the team is seeking is anticipated soon.
Prior to the 2020 IPL season, former India captain Kumble was named head coach of the Punjab Kings. Since then, the franchise has placed in the bottom half of the points chart.
Only twice have the Punjab Kings advanced to the IPL playoffs, and they only ever reached the final, when they fell to the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2014.
When Kumble was in command of the team, it won 18 and lost 22 of its 42 games. Two of the team’s games were tied while he was in charge.
Prior to taking over the reins as the head coach of the Indian squad in 2016, Kumble had previously served as the mentor for the Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
The team denied rumours that Mayank Agarwal might not return as captain this season as well.
