Career

Domestic Career

Josh joined the Western Australian Cricket Association’s (WACA) Talented Athlete Program when he was 13 years old. Later, he represented Western Australia at the Under-15s, Under-17s, Under-19s, and Under-23s age levels.

Philippe made his first-class debut for Western Australia on February 16, 2018, during the 2017–18 Sheffield Shield season. On September 18, 2018, he made his List A debut for Western Australia in the 2018–19 JLT One-Day Cup. When he made 88 off 92 balls against England’s Test attack at the WACA in 2017-18, he established himself as a top-order batsman of immense ability for Western Australia’s 2nd XI.Though his first-class average is still low, he began to show signs of stability toward the end of the 2019-2020 season. In just his fifth Shield match, he had scored his first century.

IPL Career

The RCB paid Rs. 20 lakh for Joshua Philippe ahead of the 2020 edition of the league.

Philippe’s wicket-keeping and explosive batting at the top of the order for the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League wowed everybody.

Joshua was the third-highest run-getter in the recently concluded BBL season, with 487 runs, and he was also instrumental in the Sydney Sixers winning their first BBL title. Joshua, a fearsome wicket-keeper batsman, has a proclivity for scoring runs quickly and violently. The 22-year-old has the potential and self-belief to succeed in the IPL and on a global stage. The youngster will have the opportunity to rub shoulders with the best in the industry, including Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Dale Steyn, among others, which will be a major learning experience for him.

International career

Josh Philippe has yet to make his international debut, but after a pair of eye-catching seasons with the Sydney Sixers, National coach Justin Langer picked him out as a match-winner earlier this year. Josh Philippe has been named to the 21-man team that will play a limited-overs series in England after the COVID-19 lockdown.

Background

Josh Philippe was born in Subiaco, Australia, on June 1, 1997. Steve Philippe, his father, is a former cricketer who coached Western Australia’s women’s team from 2006 to 2011. Leanne Philippe, his mum, is a former cricketer who played opening bat for Western Australia in 1986-87. Emma Philippe, Josh’s twin sister, is his other sibling. She is an athlete who competes on a national level. She has also competed in the World Youth and World Under-20 Championships in pole vault for Australia.
