Josh Philippe, a wicketkeeper-batsman, is regarded as one of Australia’s brightest batting prospects, especially in limited-overs cricket. He is an up-and-coming talent ready to break into the national side at any time.

Domestic Career

Josh joined the Western Australian Cricket Association’s (WACA) Talented Athlete Program when he was 13 years old. Later, he represented Western Australia at the Under-15s, Under-17s, Under-19s, and Under-23s age levels.

On September 18, 2018, he made his List A debut for Western Australia in the 2018–19 JLT One-Day Cup. When he made 88 off 92 balls against England’s Test attack at the WACA in 2017-18, he established himself as a top-order batsman of immense ability for Western Australia’s 2nd XI.Though his first-class average is still low, he began to show signs of stability toward the end of the 2019-2020 season. In just his fifth Shield match, he had scored his first century.

IPL Career

The RCB paid Rs. 20 lakh for Joshua Philippe ahead of the 2020 edition of the league.

Philippe’s wicket-keeping and explosive batting at the top of the order for the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League wowed everybody.

Joshua was the third-highest run-getter in the recently concluded BBL season, with 487 runs, and he was also instrumental in the Sydney Sixers winning their first BBL title. Joshua, a fearsome wicket-keeper batsman, has a proclivity for scoring runs quickly and violently. The 22-year-old has the potential and self-belief to succeed in the IPL and on a global stage. The youngster will have the opportunity to rub shoulders with the best in the industry, including Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Dale Steyn, among others, which will be a major learning experience for him.

International career

Josh Philippe has yet to make his international debut, but after a pair of eye-catching seasons with the Sydney Sixers, National coach Justin Langer picked him out as a match-winner earlier this year. Josh Philippe has been named to the 21-man team that will play a limited-overs series in England after the COVID-19 lockdown.
