The WPL 2023 Final, which will be played on Sunday at the Brabourne Stadium between the Mumbai Indians Women and the Delhi Capitals Women, will mark the conclusion of the league’s first season.
The Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals were both among the top teams throughout the tournament’s group rounds, so it makes sense that they will square off in the championship game.
DELHI CAPITALS WOMEN
The Delhi Capitals performed consistently well during the group stages to finish at the top of the points table and win a straight berth into Sunday’s finals. This was made possible by a superb batting lineup.
Meg Lanning, who recently captained the Australian national side to victory in the Women’s T20 World Cup, has performed well in her role as captain once more. She has taken the lead for her side and has scored the most runs thus far in the competition.
Shafali Verma has provided her with excellent assistance at the top of the order, and the two of them have helped the squad get off to strong beginnings. Although Jemimah Rodrigues has occasionally displayed strong performance, the squad will need more from her in this situation. The team’s two all-rounders, Marizanne Kapp and Alice Capsey, have excelled both with the ball and the bat. The Caps’ lengthy tail, though, can be a little problematic, particularly if the top tier falters.
They will rely on their potent pace attack, which consists of Marizanne Kapp, Shikha Pandey, and Capsey, to take on Mumbai Indians’ potent batting lineup. Only Jess Jonassen has been able to consistently take wickets for them, thus they are a little short on spinners.
If the club wants to win this game, their bowlers will need to play better.
MUMBAI INDIANS WOMEN
The Mumbai Indians Women made a fantastic start to the season, winning all five of their games. They had to take a longer road to the finals, though, because they stumbled a little bit towards the end of the group stages and placed second on the table.
In the Elimination, the Mumbai Indians were at their best, thrashing the UP Warriorz by 72 runs. Nat Sciver-undefeated Brunt’s half-century helped her side set a lofty 183 run goal, but Issy Wong’s maiden WPL hat trick derailed the Warriorz’s pursuit. The Mumbai Indians feature a potent batting lineup, just as the Delhi Capitals.
As an opening pair, Hayley Matthews and Yastika Bhatia have excelled, and Nat Sciver-Brunt and Harmanpreet Kaur have seldom had a bad game. The Indians, in contrast to the Caps, have a lot of batting depth since Pooja Vastrakar, Amelia Kerr, and Issy Wong can all effectively wield the willow.
The Mumbai Indians’ bowling unit has also performed admirably, as four of the top five bowlers in the competition are members of the franchise. The Mumbai Indians have, in general, discovered the ideal combination of players for their starting eleven.
