The Mumbai Indians had won back-to-back IPL titles and had expanded their advantage at the top of the winners’ list to five teams heading into the IPL 2021 season. Their bitter rivals have already narrowed the deficit to to one point, ahead of a major auction that will undoubtedly reshuffle the clubs’ lineups. KKR are still in third place, behind the two serial champions, after losing their first IPL final in three years.

As the 14th season of the event drew to an end, Rajasthan Royals won the inaugural edition, followed by Sunrisers Hyderabad and the now-defunct Deccan Chargers.
