With three original Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises on board, the UAE T20 League will offer them the opportunity to acquire players from its IPL clubs. Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Delhi Capitals can each recruit up to four players from their existing IPL rosters, according to Cricbuzz. They will have the first right to sign their players, according to an IPL franchise official.
The Emirates Cricket Board (ECB), which promotes and operates the six-team competition, allows Knight Riders to sign players like Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, or any other player from their current or past line-up in order to maintain their identity. Similarly, the Mumbai Indians can sign Kieron Pollard, Tim David, or even Jofra Archer if they so desire. The same may be said for the Delhi Capitals.
“Each club will be entitled to recruit four players of their choice outside of the draught or auction, which we will decide later,” ECB Secretary-General Mubashir Usmani said on Thursday (June 2). “Any player with a NOC from his home board could be it.”

The ECB has not yet determined whether to have an auction or a draught; the odds favour the latter, in order to avoid obvious comparisons to the IPL.
Other three clubs owned by the Adani Group, the Glazer family, and Capri Global – all of whom are relatively newcomers to the cricket leagues – may have the same option to ensure a level playing field. All teams would be permitted a USD 2 million player fee, making it the second-best purse among franchise-based tournaments after the IPL.
With the league tentatively scheduled for early January to mid-February in 2023, the schedule may conflict with the league that Cricket South Africa plans to launch early next year. As a result, the CSA has reportedly requested that three ODIs between the sides on January 12, 14, and 17 be postponed.
CA, which recently revealed its season’s international schedule, has kept those three games in the’subject to confirmation’ category to secure its players’ participation in its T20 competition. To avoid a total overlap, ECB officials plan to meet with CSA officials. A few ECB officials, including vice-chairman Khalid Al Zarooni, were in Ahmedabad for the IPL final on Sunday after being invited by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
