On Thursday, MS Dhoni and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) supporters erupted into a frenzy. After Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly revealed that the Indian Premier League 2023 (IPL 2023) would be played in the traditional home-and-away format, CSK fans were ecstatic. Since 2020, the IPL has only been played in a few cities due to COVID rules. As a result, devoted CSK fans were unable to see their “Thala” MS Dhoni in action. Now, however, there’s a possibility that Dhoni may play at Chepauk once again in IPL 2023. Notably, there is a very good likelihood that Dhoni’s illustrious career may come to an end during the IPL 2023.
In a letter to all state organisations, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly announced that the 2023 IPL would be played in a home-and-away format. CSK fans stormed Twitter with the hashtag #IPL2023, as soon as this news broke.
Dhoni watched the just finished US Open when he was last seen in the country. After the batsman was announced as an honorary member of the Metuchen Golf and Country Club (MGCC) in the United States of America, he was then spotted cutting a delicious cake. The former captain of India was thus seen cutting a special cake made only for him by the Atul Bakery USA to commemorate this momentous occasion.
While rumours of MS Dhoni retiring from the IPL have often appeared. However, the CSK veteran and skipper will continue to captain the Men in Yellow in the next IPL 2023 season, as previously announced by InsideSport.IN.
Under Dhoni, Chennai has won four championships, the most recent being IPL 2021.
The management of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) made the decision to name Ravindra Jadeja the team’s captain before to the commencement of the IPL 2022 season. CSK, however, had a turbulent season in which they underperformed. Jadeja made the decision to return MS Dhoni’s leadership after a few games.
