Mahela Jayawardene, a legend of Sri Lanka, is replaced by Boucher after being elevated to the position of Mumbai Indians Global Head of Performance.
“Being named the head coach of the Mumbai Indians is a privilege and an honour. In a press release, Boucher was cited as saying, “Their history and accomplishments as a club obviously place them up there as one of the most successful sporting teams in all of world sport.
“I respect the need for outcomes and am eager to take on this challenge. It has good players and excellent leadership. I’m eager to contribute to this vibrant team.
The South African team’s head coach, Boucher, has already stated that he will step down from his position following the T20 World Cup in Australia in late October or early November.
Since taking over in December 2019, Boucher has guided the Proteas to 11 Test victories, including a remarkable 2-1 series victory against India at home in January.
Mumbai Indians had their worst-ever season in IPL 2022, finishing last. Only four victories out of 14 games were achieved by the team coached by Rohit Sharma.
