women’s big bash tips today : Star striker returns to WBBL|08

As a result of signing a new two-year contract with the Adelaide team, Katie Mack will remain a Striker throughout the 2018 Big Bash season.

Mack contributed significantly to the Strikers’ march to the WBBL|07 championship last summer, scoring 513 runs at an average of 64.12, including five half-centuries, the second-highest total in the tournament behind Perth Scorchers player Beth Mooney.

The re-signing of the 29-year-old completes Adelaide’s roster for the Weber WBBL|08 two weeks before the competition begins.

Mack will be part of a strong batting lineup that also includes locals Bridget Patterson and Maddie Penna, returning South African star Laura Wolvaardt, West Indies all-rounder Deandra Dottin, and Tahlia McGrath of Australia.

According to Strikers coach Luke Williams, “having Katie as a steadying figure at the top of the order last year was very essential for us and she regularly provided runs at the beginning of the innings.”

“We are happy to have her back for the upcoming two seasons and are forward to see what she can bring.”

When Perth Scorchers defeated the Strikers in the WBBL final last summer, the Strikers’ quest for their first championship was cut short.

Adelaide has added Dottin, Zimbabwean all-rounder Anesu Mushangwe, and youthful fast Ella Wilson to its WBBL|07 roster.

The other unsigned players from the team from last summer are Proteas captain Dane van Niekerk and Nell Bryson-Smith, while Sarah Coyte has left after joining Melbourne Renegades.

On October 15, they will face the Sydney Sixers in Mackay to open their WBBL|08 season.

Adelaide Strikers WBBL|08 squad: Darcie Brown (CA contracted), Tahlia McGrath (CA contracted), Megan Schutt (CA contracted), Laura Wolvaardt (SA), Deandra Dottin (WI), Jemma Barsby, Meagan Dixon, Katie Mack, Anesu Mushangwe, Tegan McPharlin, Annie O’Neil, Bridget Patterson, Maddie Penna, Amanda-Jade Wellington, Ella Wilson
