What a strong beginning for the Sydney Sixers! The Sixers defeated the Brisbane Heat to begin the 2017 WBBL season, helped by skipper Ellyse Perry’s valiant 55 runs off 48 deliveries.
Though they haven’t yet played, the Adelaide Strikers have a strong squad and are undoubtedly keen to succeed in the next season.

Adelaide came so close to defeating Perth Scorchers in the WBBL championship last season.
Therefore, it is evident that the Strikers are seeking retribution this year. And how do you go about doing that? By recruiting Deandra Dottin of the West Indies and Laura Wolvaardt of South Africa, two of the top players in women’s cricket.
Those two guys immediately improve the team’s roster. We can’t wait to see Deandra Dottin play in the Australian league and wow the audience with her incredible hitting prowess. Dottin has scored a staggering 2,697 runs in 127 matches, averaging 26.68 and peaking at 112*.
Anesu Mushangwe of Zimbabwe strengthens the Strikers’ lineup despite the mild pain of losing veteran fast bowler Sarah Coyte to the Renegades. Naturally, the very gifted leg spinner Amanda-Jade Wellington is back with the team.

It’s safe to assume that everyone thought the Heat would win their season opener against the Sixers. But the resilient club managed to pull off a shocking win at the very last second, a monument to Sydney’s “never say die” mindset.
Who had a more significant performance, Ellyse Perry or Maitlan Brown? Perry’s 55 runs allowed the Sixers to pass the Heat’s 141 total, which was particularly helpful considering how poorly Sydney’s first hitters pitched. Perry also displayed amazing ball control, taking 2/27 in four overs (solid ER of 6.75).
However, Brown came to the rescue, scoring the game-winning six on the last delivery to win the match. With just two balls left, the Sixers needed five runs. Rather than taking it easy, Brown virtually flung the ball out of the stadium to seal the game.
It’s difficult to dispute Brown’s enormous influence on the game since she was an absolute genius with the ball, collecting 3/20 in only three overs (ER of 6.67).
The Sixers are quite confident going into their next matchup with the Strikers and seem to be a serious danger going into any game.
