Last season, CSK had a disappointing season, finishing seventh in an eight-team table. They won six games and lost eight games under Dhoni’s leadership.
The franchise endured another setback ahead of IPL 2021, with Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood withdrawing to spend time with his family. Despite this, Hazlewood was unable to secure a starting spot last season, playing in just three games.
On April 9, defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) take on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the first match of the IPL 2021 season. CSK will face Delhi Capitals in their first match on April 10th (DC).
CSK released Shane Watson (retired), Murali Vijay, Kedar Jadhav, Harbhajan Singh, Piyush Chawla, and Monu Singh ahead of the IPL 2021 season.
In the IPL 2021 auction, they purchased Moeen Ali, K Gowtham, Cheteshwar Pujara, Harishankar Reddy, C Hari Nishaanth, and Bhagath Verma.
