Rashid Khan has been appointed captain of the Afghanistan T20I team, replacing Mohammad Nabi, who resigned after serving Afghanistan at the 2022 ICC T20 World Championships in Australia.
Afghanistan Cricket Committee President Mirwais Ashraf suggested that Rashid take on the role as the leg spinner led the country in his 7th T20I in 2019. Rashid also led Afghanistan in his seven ODIs in 2018–19 and his two Tests in 2019.
In Rashid’s previous captaincy, Afghanistan won four of their seven games under his leadership, including two wins against the West Indies at Lucknow. Rashid’s final term as captain will begin in February 2023 when Afghanistan tours the United Arab Emirates and will play three T20Is against the hosts. “Rashid Khan is a big name in Afghan cricket. He has vast experience playing the format all over the world and will help us take the format to a new level,” said Ashraf. Told.

Speaking of his appointment, Rashid, his third highest wicket taker in T20, said:
