A crucial 2022 Asia Cup encounter between Team India and Pakistan will take place on August 28. Since their decisive 10-wicket victory over India in the T20 World Cup match last year, this will be the first men’s cricket match between the two teams.
Pakistan made it to the tournament’s semifinals, where they faced a setback to the eventual champions Australia, however India was eliminated in the group stages.
Since the world championship, India has made significant changes to its short-format approach under the direction of new captain Rohit Sharma, but Rashid Latif, a former Pakistan captain, believes that the team’s lopsided 10-wicket loss in the T20 WC match caused “a lot of damage.”
“I don’t believe they (India) would be thinking about the World Cup. They are taking it one series at a time, and it’s important to note that teams change every series.
“You can play as many series as you like, but the India-Pakistan match will always be crucial. I think the India team, the board, and management will pay close attention to the Asia Cup matchup versus Pakistan.
If all the players are available for India, they can be favourites if they want to win the Asia Cup.
The former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter continued, “The landslide victory in their last fight will give Babar Azam-led side a lift,” despite India’s prior domination in matches between the two fierce rivals.
“The UAE’s climate is suitable for them. India will play with everything they’ve got against Pakistan. In the last 20 years, they have dominated the encounters between the two teams, but Pakistan did triumph by 10 wickets in their most recent match. So planning will be involved,” Latif said.
