Dawid Malan, an England international, has withdrawn from the UAE leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Punjab Kings (PBKS), the batsman’s team, announced the news on social media. The 34-year-old will spend time with his family before the T20 World Cup and the Ashes, according to the franchise. Aiden Markram, a South African cricketer, has been appointed as a substitute for Malan by the Punjab franchise.
Malan, the world’s top-ranked Twenty20 batter, was recalled to the Test team during the series against India when England promoted Haseeb Hameed to open in the third Test in place of the dropped Dom Sibley.
Malan has 1123 runs in 30 T20I matches, including a highest score of 103. He has a tonne and 11 half-centuries to his credit.
This year, he made his IPL debut after being selected by PBKS. He only participated in one match, scoring 26 runs, before the season was called off in the middle due to an increase of COVID-19 cases in the bio-secure bubble.
PBKS have found a flashy batsman in Markram, who has scored 405 runs in 13 T20I matches. In T20I cricket, the South African holds a best score of 70.
The IPL Betting tips today season begins on September 19 in Dubai, with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) hosting Mumbai Indians (MI). On September 21, PBKS will resume their season against Rajasthan Royals (RR).
