After striking a respectable 269 in the first innings of the Runge Trophy Elite Group ‘A’ match at the Bengal Cricket Academy Grounds on day two, Baroda, aided by a brief display of bowlers, made a strong comeback, Reduced Bengal to 9 to 189. at Kalyani on Wednesday.
Continuing the night’s score of 222 for 7, Baroda added 47 runs in the first hour of action to give the bowlers a decent score to defend. Akash Deep (71-4) and his Mukesh Kumar (56-3) were the most notable players with the ball in Bengal.
Pacers SahejadKhan pathan (46-4) and Soyeb Sopariyah (43-3) rushed through Bengal’s batting his lineup, putting Baroda in a strong position. With one wicket remaining, Bengal were down 80 runs to nearly concede the first innings to give the lead to Baroda. Veteran Anustup Majumdar (90) stalled Bengal’s innings and added seriousness to the hosts’ result with a 72-run partnership for six wickets with Abishek Porel (25).
