Former RCB coach Daniel Vettori believes Glenn Maxwell should take over as captain after impressing both fans and management in his first season with the Bengaluru franchise. He scored 513 runs at an average of over 42 in 15 matches, including six half-centuries. According to Vettori, the club is unlikely to pursue another player in the auction, opting instead to back Maxwell as Kohli’s heir.
“He will most likely be Kohli’s heir.” Last year, he delivered, and he was a standout performer for them. He has previous captaincy experience with the Melbourne Stars. When it comes to retaining players, most teams seek to identify a captain,” Vettori told ESPNCricinfo.
“I believe it has happened far too often for teams to have to seek out a means to locate somebody to find in the auction, which may sometimes muddy your judgement.” As a result, I believe Maxwell will be named captain,” he said.
Maxwell has previously played in the IPL for teams such as the Delhi Capitals and Kings XI Punjab. But it’s only at RCB that he’s recovered his form and earned the team’s faith.
Vettori hopes the management will reward him for his trust by naming him captain for the following season. “I believe there is a reward for a good performance.” Kohli, I’m sure, had a big hand in this. He wanted to pave the path for someone with whom he had little contact to come in and lead the squad. So I saw Kohli and Maxwell in excellent spirits,” Vettori continued.
