IPL 2024 AUCTION TOP BID : Pat Cummins Creates IPL Auction History, Joins Sunrisers Hyderabad for Record Bid of Rs 20.5 Crore

Australian cricket’s World Cup-winning captain, Pat Cummins, etched his name in IPL history during the 2024 auction in Dubai, securing a groundbreaking deal with Sunrisers Hyderabad for an unprecedented Rs 20.50 crore. The 30-year-old all-rounder, entering the auction with a base price of Rs 2 crore, became the first player ever to breach the 20-crore mark in IPL history. A heated bidding war ensued primarily between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad, with Cummins ultimately claiming the title of the most expensive player, both overseas and overall, in IPL history.

Cummins had previously been a sought-after player, being roped in by Kolkata Knight Riders for INR 15.5 crore in the IPL 2020 auction. With a total of 42 matches played in the IPL, Cummins has taken 45 wickets and showcased his batting prowess with 379 runs at a striking strike rate of 152.21.

Leading the Australian team to a historic sixth World Cup title in November, Cummins not only brings formidable skills but also leadership qualities. Given Sunrisers Hyderabad’s recent instability in captaincy, Cummins could potentially serve not just as a dynamic bowler and batsman but also as a stabilizing force as the team’s captain.
